What changes between forex and crypto in a journal

Metrics are the same (win rate, profit factor, expectancy, drawdown). What changes is capture: in crypto the exchange API is the best experience; in forex most brokers expose history via file (CSV/MT4/MT5/cTrader). TraderZone supports both.

Key features for forex

  • MT4, MT5 and cTrader import

Upload the history file your broker exports and the journal fills with every trade — entry, exit, lot, swap, commission.

  • Asia / London / NY sessions

Each trade is tagged by session. You’ll clearly see which hours work for you and which drain your account.

  • Spread, swap and net commissions

We capture the real cost of the trade — not just gross PnL. Knowing a setup loses to swap matters as much as the price outcome.

  • Cross-referenced economic calendar

We flag trades that landed on high-impact events (NFP, FOMC, CPI). Those trades may be contaminating your metrics.

  • Lot size and % of account

We convert lot to real USD risk and % of account automatically. Without this, R-multiple doesn’t apply to forex.

  • Per-pair drawdown and equity curve

Global and per-pair equity (EURUSD, GBPJPY, XAUUSD…). Useful to detect toxic pairs before they affect the whole account.

Why a dedicated journal is non-negotiable in forex

Forex has frictions crypto spot doesn’t: variable spread per session, daily swap that piles up, and macro events that move 100 pips in seconds. Without a journal you can’t separate 'my strategy failed' from 'I paid $80 of swap to hold overnight'. Metrics lie when you ignore real costs.

Forex journal FAQ

Which forex brokers does TraderZone support?
Any broker that exports history in CSV, MT4, MT5 or cTrader. That covers 95% of the market: IC Markets, Pepperstone, FBS, XM, RoboForex, OANDA, FXTM, Exness and more. API integration is added broker by broker; meanwhile, file upload works perfectly.
Does it capture swaps and spreads correctly?
Yes. If your history file includes them (most do), the journal reads them and deducts from gross PnL to compute real net PnL. The metrics show the difference.
Does it work for XAU/USD (gold), indices and CFDs?
Yes. The engine doesn’t assume pure forex: any instrument your broker reports (XAU, US30, NAS100, oil) is processed equally. Metrics are instrument-agnostic.
Can I combine forex and crypto accounts in the same journal?
Yes. Each account is independent — you can have a Bybit (crypto via API) and IC Markets (forex via file) account in parallel and compare market performance.
What if my broker doesn’t export a readable file?
Message us on WhatsApp. In under 24h we help map columns or give you a script to convert. If the broker has no export at all (rare), manual entry remains.
How much does the forex journal cost?
The free plan covers manual + file upload and basic metrics. Paid plans add academy, smart signals and advanced metrics. See pricing for details.
Is it safe to upload my history to TraderZone?
The history file does NOT contain broker credentials — only your closed trades. We can’t trade your account with that. We store it encrypted and you can delete it anytime.
